The enemy uncovered two gun platforms on the promontory of St Elmo, one opposite the windmills of the island of St Michael and another opposite St Angelo…

When the Grand Master became aware of the enemy’s design he ordered that the two galleys, St Gabriel and the Corona should be allowed to fill with water. The other two galleys, the Capitana and the San Giovanni were safe in the ditch of St Angelo.
