At this time Bajada came from the City (Mdina) and said that the cavalry had captured a Janizary and two labourers. This Bajada was a Maltese who had been a slave in the hands of the Turks and spoke their language fluently. He was a very good swimmer and did good service for the Order during the Siege.
 A Janizary (or Janissary) was an elite infantry soldier who was usually part of the Ottoman Sultanâ€™s bodyguards and household troops. In the attack on Malta, an exceptionally large number of them were sent to ensure victory.
