Balbi di Corregio's Diary - 6th September

During the night our men went out from the Post of Castile and St Michael’s to the Turkish trenches but met no one there; all they found were some tools which were brought in. This reconnaissance proved to us the weakness and fear of the enemy since they dared not remain in their trenches by night. Neither did they keep all their galleys in harbour, and, in order to man them, they were obliged to withdraw their men from the lines.
